FAQ:
How can I know if ATA Support works with my cards?
There is no list of compatible cards yet. Here is the test to perform to be sure that a card works:
- Install ATA Support
- Insert your card. A card slip should appear. Click on "Partition". Choose Zero sectors.
- Copy a note and move it to the card.
- Unmount the stores (use the blinking star), remove the card, insert it again.
- Your note should be there.
A card is not compatible if:
- There is an error when you partition the card.
- There is an error when you reinsert the card.
Could ATA cards used with a Newton be read in a Mac/PC?
No. ATA Support uses a Newton-like way of storing data (with a database), not a Mac/PC-like way to store data (files).
Could ATA cards used with a Mac/PC be read in a Newton?
Not yet. This is not planned for release 1.0.
Does ATA Support offers a way to make backups?
Not yet. This is planned for release 1.0, though.
Will ATA Support run on my MP110/NewtonOS 1.x?
No. NewtonOS 1.x relies too much on the linearity of cards (in particular, it expects the store engines to let it directly access objects in RAM). Additionally, one cannot write native applications for NewtonOS 1.x.
